1.1.6   Subtracting Rational Numbers   ("Adaptive" Learning)

Lulu made the following two transactions on her credit card --     and    (dollars) respectively.   What is the total?

  Subtraction Table
Ref #     Fact Ref #     Fact
1.   1 -  1 =  0 5.   0 -  0 =   0
2.   1 -  0 =  1 6.  -1 - -1 =  0
3.   1 - -1 =  2 7.  -1 -  0 = -1
4.   0 - -1 =  1 8.  -5 -  1 = -6
9  -5 - -7 = 2

A "charge"  increases credit card debt, adds to the amount that you owe -- creates  "negative" cash flow to the balance.

A "reverse charge"  (negative charge)  or a payment decreases debt, reduces credit card balance  -- creates  "positive cash flow"  to your account.
