Introduction to Computer and Internet Applications
Course Description: This course provides an overview of microcomputer
applications including a brief introduction to computer concepts. Microsoft
Windows, Microsoft Office XP, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft
Access, and Microsoft PowerPoint. 4 units Credit. UC-CSU transferable.
For concurrently-enrolled HS students, meets Computer Literacy requirements.
Give students basic skills in
using Microsoft Office Applications.
Provide introduction to Moodle and
other Content Management Systems.
Use of writing tools -- Rich-Text
/ HTML Editor.
Creating materials on a
World-Class Presentation Level with Graphics.
Learn to generate within yourself the responsibility to succeed.
Quality - Create
Total Quality work as your standard for completion. Do self-assessment
and improvement. Use the Dr. Deming Plan-Do-Check-Act model.
- This course is more about earning points by doing assignments / extra
credit work. Grades are awarded on the point system. You
should spend from 1 - 2 hours per day on the website performing work, and/or
following links to extra credit assignments. Continuous learning is
our goal: You may work in short "access" sessions, repeatedly .. as
necessary. The goal is to do the assignments. Make classwork
part of your daily regimen. .
In addition to team projects, you are encourage to learn from and
teach others. Extra credit will be given for working together.
Think Visual -
Add as much high-quality graphics, videos to your work. Multi-media
communicates learning across a large bandwidth!
You are expected to log in,
perform work, and submit a minimum of 200 points per week. This is
"B" level performance: 16 weeks * 200 = 3200. A-4000
points. B=3000; C= 2000.

Dropping the Class
It is understandable if other factor
interfere with completing the course. Things happen! If this is the case,
drop the class. .

Resources Needed :
Computer access -
you will need access to a computer with MS Word installed. You computer must
be reliable, at least for the next 5 weeks.
-you can use a dial up connection, but it would be best for some of the
class if you have a DSL or Cable connection. Most importantly, it must be
Plug Ins - you
will need to insure you have the following plug-in installed on your
Email -we will
make extensive use of email. Make sure you update your profile with your
current email information.
Flash Drive - to carry your
files and software on a USB drive. Allows you to easily carry and
transfer key documents, pictures, music and video clips from one computer to
another. Recommend min. 4MB.
