Q001:
CIS 701 QUIZ 01 PROF. AUCIELLO
EXPLANATION:
This lesson-quiz represents some 'break-through' thinking:
For example, we are working on the premise that the student
is a committed and active 'participant' in the learning
process; and work is migrating to the Web that can delivers
instruction, provide 'forums', enable critical-thinking and
and research, uses 'peer-learning' principles, and provides
'positive attendance' and highly interactive, participative
environment that can function synchronously (real-time) or
asynchronously (anytime, anywhere)!
Therefore, these quizzes are non-threatening. The rules are
that you must respond to each question, and that you will
compare and discuss your answers with other students or
instructor, ("team learning") and keep re-taking the quiz
until you feel that it is at the '100%' level. You will be
graded on your last and best quiz.
To say it another way, I am using some Form-to-File Web
Technology to give you Read and Write access to a shared
file (virtual discussion group based on assigned topics).
Your IP address and date submitted are recorded along with
your choices. Each time you submit, you can view the
answers of others, and even print them out! You are
expected to build on what you read, and do more thinking
and research and submit responses in your own words. In
other words, learn from what you read, and improve on it,
and make it yours. Finally, at the end of the lesson,
-- when you know that you understand it -- say "Mr. A. --
I got this lesson, thank you -- and type your name.
We will start now: it is meant to be an extension, an
enhancement, a digital alternative to class instruction,
a forum-group, an online seminar, and opportunity to
improve on the High Performance Classroom concept.
Please add value, and earn extra points for improving
the system.
1) Talking about Grading ...
3500 (with portfolio) or 4000 (no portfolios) = A. 3000 = B.
2500 = C, etc. Portfolio = Project Notebook = Viewbinder
with printouts of all quizzes, projects, etc -- all work that you
submitted points for! Helpful to be indexed, well-organized.
Show it to me. You keep it as a demonstration of the quality
work that you can do! It represents you!
- For every class day that you sign in and read the posted
information, you will receive 25 Points.
- For each Project that you do, that is printed out and
put in your Project Notebook, 100 Points (as many as you
can do). These Projects demonstrate your Computer / Internet
and document your grade. "PUTTING POINTS ON THE GRADE-SCOREBOARD."
- For Helping Another Student to complete His / Her Project,
25 Points per day. ............ Document these points
on the Extra Credit Worksheet (posted on our website).
- There are some old-type, DOS-Based Quizzes (That I have not
yet converted to a Web-Language). You will earn 25 Points
for each quiz passed for maximum of 1000 points.
-
There are over 100 Projects posted under "CIS 701 - D.E."
FIND THEM, AND START ANYWAY, AND DO AS MANY AS YOU CAN IN
ANY ORDER THAT YOU PLEASE. (SOME STUDENTS DO THEM ALL, AND
KEEP COMING BACK TO GET THE NEW ONES.)
- Online Quizzes:
On step #5, under CIS 700 and 701, there is an index of Online
Quizzes that are worth 100-300 points each. It is possible to
earn 2000+ points from these quizzes. In fact, half
of the points that you submit must come from these online quizzes!
It is my expectation that you will like them and learn well from them!
When you think that you understand the grading policy, how to earn points, and
the 'team concept', just write: "I got this, Mr. A."

Q006: TEXTBOOKS.
THIS IS FLEXIBLE. I RECOMMEND A "MICROSOFT OFFICE
HANDBOOK" (about $35) -- THIS IS A CLASSIC WORK.
Really, you should study from this book.
YOU COULD ALSO GET ALL YOUR INFO FROM THE WEB --
HELP FILES, www.microsoft.com, from my website, etc -=
THIS YOU SHOULD DO ANYWAY.
ALTERNATIVELY, AND MINIMALLY, YOU NEED AT LEAST A STUDY
GUIDE ON WINDOWS 98 OR HIGHER AND WORD 97 OR HIGHER.
ABOUT $4.00 EACH.
TELL ME YOUR PLANS FOR A TEXTBOOK, AND IF YOU ARE ABLE
(EXTRA CREDIT) TO GET IT FROM THE WEB.
Your Main Assignment this week is to start typing
"Introduction to Visual Communications"
(under 701 - DE Projects). Print it out from the Web.
Check in here that you have started it.
Later, you can come back, and indicate that
you have finished it.
