5. I can operate the Virtual Classroom from my CD!
(Load Netscape (soon we will test compatibility with MS Internet Explorer), in the Location (URL) bar, enter D:\index.html, where D:\ is the drive letter for your CD. This starts the lesson.)

6. I understand how to test myself on the quizzes in the back of the Workbook!
(These lesson-quizzes use a 'sentence-completion / complete thought' method to teach you basics about Microcomputers and Windows. They are intended to be read, and self-testing. A timed version of these quizzes is available in K-307, LATTC, that will test and score you (also installed by arrangement)).

7. I have an email address (call me cyber-connected!)
(The 2nd lesson in group 1 - 701-email - pg 8 -- walks you through the process of getting an email address. Students generally select Hotmail or CollegeClub (your choice). Put away your Logon ID and Password in a secure place, and don't lose it!)

9. I won at Solitaire! (701-sol = 100 Points)
(Solitaire (sol.exe) should be in the Games folder. If not, email me and we will direct you to it. It is also on the Net. To beat it, you have to devise a strategy, then demonstrate 'copying-and-pasting' skills to develop the document [pg 7]). Soon there will be a HELP file on the Main Page for "How to do it".

10. 701-IMAGE (image with text) (100 Points)
(For this assignment, you need to get a picture (from Mr. A's digital camera, or scanned photograph, or clip an image from the Web or grab one from ClipArt [you may need help here]. You need to demonstrate 'pasting' and 'sizing' and positioning of image. You need to able to write Text above and below graphic [may need help here]. It is better, of course, to get your photo now, so that you have it ready for your Home Page.)

11. Checklist #1 - (100 points)
(Learn how to use "Save Files" to save your projects on the A: drive, then to use DISKCOPY A: B: to backup your floppy, and verify that you can point, click, drag, use the right-side button (you can change speed and sensitivity with Mouse in Control Panel), prove that you can print, and demonstrate some success in passing the quizzes, then you can check off all the items for 100 Points. [Later, we will resolve how to play Masterind]. Omit item #4.)

12. Checklist #2: 100 points.
(Buy at least (3) disks, (1) viewbinder, identify and use a Virus Scanning program on your system [you may need help here], understand the grading system [already defined], understand that you are in charge of your life [and the grade that you get in this course] = 'empowerment'. Omit items 7 & 9.)

Print out this Form, stash in Notebook.

This form tells me how many assignments you have done. It is a 'benchmark", a milepost, a status indicator of your progress thru Group #1. Don't check off an assignment until it is done, printed and in your viewbinder and is of the same or better quality than the demo assignments. The answers that you give must be verifiable and backed up by your work in the notebook, and based on "Work Actually Completed." This screen is to be submitted at the end of Week 1 or whenever you update the status of a Group 1 assignment. Please use it to tell me what your progress is.
