Please come on out this weekend and support this group of talented young men who are representing this college. Maria Shriver Brings WeConnect to LATTC Ulises Benavides, Vice President, LATTC Associated Student Organization greets Maria Shriver and presents her with a bouquet of yellow roses.
WeConnect 2008 was a tremendous success servicing hundreds of our students and community members. This is part of a statewide campaign headed by California First Lady Maria Shriver. She is trying to connect the billion dollars of California assistance that goes unclaimed each year, with folks who are eligible to use it. Ms. Shriver was excited to attend this particular event, along with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, city councilman Bernard Parks, state senator Mark Ridley-Thomas and community activist Sweet Alice. There are four similar events going on statewide. They walked the halls of the Trade Tech's C- building decorated by ASO, and housing numerous community partners in the areas of tax preparation, financial planning, nutritional aid, children's services, utility service and state service access. One of the highlights was ASO Vice-president Ulisses Benavides presenting Ms. Shriver with a bouquet of yellow roses. Once again, Los Angeles Trade-Technical College provided a wonderful venue for a great event, that helped hundreds access important help. Ms. Shriver thanked president Chip Chapdelaine for the generous hospitality of the college. 080211

LATTC Welcomes Senator Obama
Senator Barack Obama speaks to the crowd gathered in Steven's Square at LATTC. Click here for more photos.Illinois Senator Barack Obama made a stop at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College Thursday January 31st during his historic presidential campaign. The senator delivered a speech to an enthusiastic crowd of our college community in Stevens Square. Invited state and local dignitaries joined students, faculty and staff in welcoming the popular senator who took several questions from the audience after his speech. Following his speech, Obama mingled with the crowd and greeted students and staff members.

Prior to addressing the crowd, Obama met with LATTC president “Chip” Chapdelaine, LACCD chancellor Mark Drummond, LACCD Board of Trustees president Sylvia Scott-Hayes and several LATTC staff members. The senator received several gifts, including a jacket in the LATTC purple and gold colors with Obama 1 emblazoned on the back. Click here for more photos 080131

Network for a Healthy California at LATTC
From left, Monique Sutton, Siri Perlman, Matt Ruscigno, Christine Bou Sleiman, William Fernandez represented the Network for a Healthy California at Maria Shriver’s WeConnect 2008 event at LATTC. The Network for a Healthy California (Network) located at LATTC, is a public health campaign that empowers low-income Californians with essential tools to help increase fruit and vegetable consumption and physical activity in their communities.

The group participated in the WeConnect 2008 event here at LATTC. They provided nutrition education and food stamp outreach at each of the WeConnect events. The network was delighted to be able to serve healthy low-cost taste tests, provide cookbooks and nutrition information to the community as well Maria Shriver and Mayor Villaraigosa. By the way, here is a link to Maria's “healthy living” tips. You'll note they mention consuming more fruits and vegetables daily, which is one of the main goals of our program. The network's outreach efforts include special events on campus, as the WeConnect event, nutrition education workshops at the LATTC Child Development Center, and guest lectures on campus. It hopes to expand efforts here at LATTC. 080211
